Son of student murdered...

Langston Carraway, 26, was found dead at his State College, Pennsylvania, apartrment by his brother about 2:15 p.m. Monday. Langston was the son of one of our doctoral students. From the report appearing in our local newspaper, The Centre Daily Times:

Man's death ruled homicide

PATTON TOWNSHIP -- Admitting they have no suspects, police are asking for the public's help in finding whoever killed a Penn State student whose body was found in his apartment Monday afternoon.

Langston Carraway, 26, of 110 Northbrook Lane, Apt. 201, was found dead by his brother about 2:15 p.m. Monday.

Police and Centre County District Attorney Michael Madeira took the unusual step Tuesday of refusing to make public any information about how Carraway died.

"It is a homicide," Madeira said. "But because the investigation is ongoing, we are not releasing the manner of death. It might be unusual, but we want to make sure we have straight facts and (potential witness) statements based on facts rather than what they have seen or read in the media."

The homicide is the third to occur in Centre County in the past five months.
This is a terrible loss for the Carraway family.Coffee, hot and dark

Poem: "I'll Be Seeing You," by Jo McDougall, from Towns Facing Railroads. © University of Arkansas Press. Reprinted with permission on Garrison Keillor's, The Writer's Almanac:

I'll Be Seeing You

World War II is slipping away, I can feel it.
Its officers are gray.
Their wives who danced at the USO
are gray, too.
Veterans forget their stories. Some lands they fought in
have new names, and Linda Venetti
who deserted the husband who raised cows
to run off with an officer
has come home to look after her mother
and work the McDonald's morning shift.
William Holden is dead,
and my mother, who knew all the words
to "When the Lights Go On Again All over the World."

Off to Niagara Falls...

Off to Niagara Falls today for a reception for relatives. Takes about 5 hours to drive there from my home. Back tomorrow. Nice, informative video about the Falls:

Controls for the video are at the bottom of the screen embedded screen above.

The video was taken from a variety of vantage points, including from a helicopter and from a jet boat.

Will visit parents' graves today. Coffee is sparse along the way. I will stock up. Get gasoline at the Senaca Indian reservation and at the Tuscarora Indian reservation. No federal taxes there.Coffee, hot and dark

Surgeon's office, 4:25 pm, 1 June 2006...

Stitches removed from right calf. A little healing still to occur. Pathology reports hemangioma benign, which is no surprise because this fact was established in a biopsy that happened a year prior.

Meeting at 6:45 this morning. I am in a Dennys Restaurant in State College, Pennsylvania, having three poached eggs and very ordinary coffee prior to meeting.Coffee, hot and dark
