Sunrise in Happy Valley...

Sunrise on the Hills
--Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

I stood upon the hills, when heaven's wide arch
Was glorious with the sun's returning march,
And woods were brightened, and soft gales
Went forth to kiss the sun-clad vales.
The clouds were far beneath me; bathed in light,
They gathered mid-way round the wooded height,
And, in their fading glory, shone
Like hosts in battle overthrown.
As many a pinnacle, with shifting glance.
Through the gray mist thrust up its shattered lance,
And rocking on the cliff was left
The dark pine blasted, bare, and cleft.
The veil of cloud was lifted, and below
Glowed the rich valley, and the river's flow
Was darkened by the forest's shade,
Or glistened in the white cascade;

If thou art worn and hard beset
With sorrows, that thou wouldst forget,
If thou wouldst read a lesson, that will keep
Thy heart from fainting and thy soul from sleep,
Go to the woods and hills! No tears
Dim the sweet look that Nature wears.Coffee, hot and dark

Fred Rogers Center...

The firm, Davis Gardner Gannon Pope Architecture (DGGP) of Pittsburgh, for which by son-in-law, David, works was selected to design a $12 million, 40,000 square feet building program on the St. Vincent College which will house The Fred M. Rogers Center for Early Learning and Children's Media and the new Saint Vincent College Conference Center and Exhibition Hall. DGGP was selected through a design competition of Pennsylvania regional as well as national architectural firms. A topic I love; a podcast that is easy to hate...

Listened this morning to a podcast at Radio Economics:

(Podcast feed is at http://feeds.feedburner.com/radioeconomics).

Believe me, chicos y chicas, I feel safe saying that this podcast is duller than anything I have ever done. I subscribed to hear interviews with all sorts of luminaries in economics. However, even the interesting and stimulating (in print, apparently) New York Times op-ed page guy and Princeton economist, Paul Krugman, sounds distracted and dull. Nobel Prize winner, Gary Becker, and Judge Richard Posner, authors of the popular Becker-Posner Blog, sound as interesting as birdshit drying on a windowsill.

Sorry to be so critical, but I am disapointed.Well, hell, you might be disappointed with me, too. The world chases its tail around in boredom.

The problem: My knickers in a bunch. The solution: More coffee.Coffee, hot and dark

Dean's wife sticks her tongue out at the Gulag...

Pam Monk, the wife of the Dean of my College, stuck her tongue out at the Gulag Fun Park at the holiday party held at the Dean's house last Friday. She is the author of a humor column—The Rules of Family, Advice from Donna Corleone (see a recent installment)—which appears monthly on the Web as part of the delightfully subversive bi-weekly, happywomanmagazine.com (motto: "We think so you don't have to!"). The best snippets from happywomanmagazine were published in the recent book, Random Acts of Malice:

Very funny stuff.

The coffee today is Seattle's Best served at the Reese's Cafe (see video in links at right) in the vast lobby of the Information Science & Technology Building on the University Park Campus of Penn State University in a nice paper, 16 ounce cup. Cold day (right now, sunny and 12 degrees F) and hot coffee. Good combo!Coffee, hot and dark

Coffee should be black as hell, strong as death, and sweet as love.
