Yuki...

Yuki
Yuki is my graduate assistant. She has a very big job, as did my assistants before her. She grades the assignments in my data analysis course. Each person completes about 60 exercises and may resubmit a graded assignment once for a better grade. There is the potential for 120 assignments per student. You can do the math necessary to know that 16 students can generate a lot of work for Yuki. She also grades assignments for another course that I teach that upgrades technology skills of graduate students. She works hard and accomplishes plenty of tasks very well.

Forgot to mention that Yuki is in the final stages of completion of her PhD. Just the thesis to finish and the final oral examination to pass.Coffee, hot and dark

My favorite photo of Winnie Chen...

Winnie Chen
This photograph was taken at a party held at the Passmore house last winter. The little bear is a stuffed animal that Winnie gave to me that night. The bear is carrying a note that says, "The beary best assistant."

Winnie now is the head of her department at her University in Taiwan. Winnie trained Yuki well!Coffee, hot and dark

Just found Jamaica again...

Was doing some scouring and cleaning of my web server today, and I found a link to a site I built when I presented a paper about underemployment at a Conference held in Jamaica. See:

Wonderful conference held at a quite beautiful hotel on the beach at Montego Bay. Sun, wind, waves. Poverty all around.

We took a trip to a vocational school up into the mountains over Jamaica's "best" road which was marked with huge potholes. The school was very poor, but the kids were excited to see and meet us. They served us a great luncheon, and, then, they performed music and dance for us.Coffee, hot and dark
