Can dogs look sad?

Even the dog looked sad this morning. Or, what was it? Do dogs feel sadness, too? What is behind that Sphinx-like face? What dreams of green grass and crunchy nibbling food and lovely smells reside? What longings and fears sit and grind on the dog's mind? How can we know?

Every man has his secret sorrows which the world knows not; and often times we call a man cold when he is only sad.

The kids can't blog...

Glad we can blog here! Read an article this morning about blog censorship, an extract from which I provide here:

When students post their faces, personal diaries and gossip on Web sites like Myspace.com and Xanga.com, it is not simply harmless teen fun, according to one Sussex County Catholic school principal.

It's an open invitation to predators and an activity that Pope John XIII Regional High School in Sparta will no longer tolerate, the Rev. Kieran McHugh told a packed assembly of 900 high school students two weeks ago.

Effective immediately, and over student complaints, the teens were told to dismantle their Myspace.com accounts or similar sites with personal profiles and blogs. Defy the order and face suspension, students were told.

See more at Asbury Park Press (as always, these links to newspaper articles never last; so get it while it's hot.).

I am at Wegmans Wireless Internet Cafe (see link at right) this morning. Have a 12 ounce cup of pumpkin spice coffee. Not as bad as it might sound!Coffee, hot and dark

Jason & his dad....

Jason finished his PhD with us this year. He is a professor at National Taiwan Normal University. His dad, pictured with him at the Nittany Lion shrine on the Penn State University Park Campus, is a Bhuddist monk. Coffee, hot and dark
